Andy dixon
Andy Dixon’s work is a captivating exploration of decadence, patronage, and the intricate dance between art and wealth. Drawing inspiration from opulent sources such as Flemish still lifes, Versace silk shirts, and the treasures found within auction houses, Dixon artfully blends historical references with contemporary social commentary. His paintings play with the tropes of art history, challenging the notion of value in luxuries both past and present. Beneath the vibrant, candy-colored canvases lies a thread of self-deprecation, offering a profound reflection on the psychology of worth.
Born in 1979 in Vancouver, Canada, Dixon's journey to fine arts was unconventional. A self-taught painter, he transitioned from a successful career as a professional musician to pursue his passion for painting. His work has since gained international recognition, featured in solo and group exhibitions at prestigious galleries and art fairs, including Beers, London (2018); Wilding Cran, Los Angeles (2018); Pulse Miami (2017); and Volta, New York (2017). Dixon’s paintings have found their place in esteemed collections worldwide, such as the Walton Family Private Collection at Crystal Bridges, Arkansas, and the West Collection in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
