What is Moutonière?
Our first collection, launched at Paris Fashion Week, is a limited edition set of silk art scarves. For each scarf, we commissioned an original painting from four mid-career contemporary artists: Patrick Puckett, Andy Dixon, C.M. Duffy, and Filipp Jenikäe. Our inaugural artists work in Mississippi, Los Angeles, Toronto, and Berlin and have exhibited pieces in galleries and shows all over the world.
To turn these original artworks into scarves, we engaged a third-generation family workshop in Como, Italy, the capital of hand silk screening. This traditional craft, unlike modern digital printing, involves taking each artwork and engraving screens, one screen per color, then using the screens to apply colors to the silk, one by one, to build up the artwork, as shown in this video. Seamstresses in Italy then roll and sew the edges of each scarf by hand.
Moutonière scarves are available in two sizes, 34” x 34” or 53” x 53”, as well as in a ribbon. You can wear them around the neck, as a top, as a belt, over the head, in lieu of a tie, as a beautiful collar for your dog, or in any number of other ways.
See some pictures from our photoshoot on Lake Como or our launch party in Paris for inspiration. And the scarves can also be framed and hung, each one a beautiful piece of wearable silk art. They’re for sale now on our website and at a series of popups in major markets that you’ll see us announce on Instagram.
We are incredibly proud of Collection 1 — but it’s just the beginning.
The Idea of Curation: The Soul of Moutonière
Moutonière’s mission is to build a modern luxury house centered around the concept of curation. For us, curation means presenting collections that embody our vision of beauty, blending exceptional design with masterful craftsmanship. We travel the world to collaborate with the best artists and artisans, creating pieces that we would want to collect ourselves.
Our ethos of curation stands in contrast to two prevalent market trends: selection and commodification.
Today’s market offers unprecedented selection. Customers can find a staggering range of products and have them delivered from anywhere. While selection is great for specific needs, it also shifts the responsibility of discerning quality onto the customer. A luxury house built on curation, however, does the work of selecting and creating the best products—that’s the value we provide. At Moutonière, we don’t offer endless choices; instead, we present a curated vision of beauty informed by our research, taste, and expertise.
Commodification, the reduction of products to their most functional aspects, is another prevailing trend. This drive for efficiency often strips products of their beauty and stories. Why use traditional screen printing when modern digital printing is faster and cheaper? Why choose free-hand engraving when a stamped pattern is more efficient? For a luxury house focused on curation, the answers are simple: truly beautiful products reflect the human touch behind them. Moutonière products are imbued with the stories of generations of artisans, perfecting techniques that deliver not only function but soul. As a Moutonière patron, you help preserve, sustain, and advance these crafts.
Artists, Artisans, Patrons, and Collections
Moutonière is built around four key ideas:
Artists. Great design starts with artists. For our art scarves, we collaborated with painters. Future collections might feature sculptors, tailors, or interior designers. What defines an artist is their conscious effort to create something unique and beautiful—pieces that challenge the ordinary, much like Coco Chanel’s tweed suits or Dior’s “New Look." At Moutonière, we don’t follow market trends or focus group data. Our products reflect the vision of the artists we admire most.
Artisans. Artisans bring artistic visions to life, adding their skill and craftsmanship. For our scarves, we used traditional silk screening and hand sewing rather than modern printing. Future collections may involve metalworkers, gem setters, engravers, marquetry specialists, or wood carvers. By investing in artisans’ work, we keep these crafts economically viable and create a market of patrons who value products made with soul and skill.
Patrons. Buying a Moutonière product makes you more than a customer—you become a patron supporting the artists and artisans who crafted your piece. Moutonière collectors play a role in promoting and sustaining artistic talent. There’s joy in knowing you’re not just buying an item but joining a shared journey toward beauty and the future of luxury.
Collections. Each Moutonière product is designed for long-term collectability. Collection 1 scarves are limited to 125 pieces per size and 200 ribbons, each accompanied by a signed certificate of origin and a unique serial number for identification. As our collections grow, we will publish guides to serve as a resource for collectors. A Moutonière piece is made to be passed down with pride.
Communities of Enthusiasts
Moutonière believes in fostering communities of enthusiasts.
The strongest recommendation for a product often comes from a knowledgeable friend—a wine aficionado who suggests a rare pinot noir, a car enthusiast who shares stories of the 911, or a watch collector who debates the merits of a Nautilus versus a Royal Oak. These friends are part of communities bound by passion and expertise.
How do we build these communities for Moutonière?
Step one: Exposure. We create opportunities for people to experience Moutonière products in person, at popups and city launch events that highlight not only the items but the lifestyle they embody. Our Paris Fashion Week event at hotel Le Montana was just the start.
Step two: Education. When you find a Moutonière product you love, we help you learn more. Meet the artist in video interviews, see their work and studio tours, and engage in conversations at events. Discover the artisans’ process through videos and stories on our website and Instagram. Learn how their craftsmanship translates into details you can see and feel.
Step three: Amplification. Once you’ve discovered and connected with a Moutonière product, we make it easy for you to share your passion. Join popups, invite friends to tastemaker dinners, and access behind-the-scenes content you can share. Work with Moutonière stylists, photographers, and videographers to develop your unique style and showcase it to the world.
Discovering and sharing something special is rewarding. In 2024 and 2025, we’ll host city launch events, popups, and tastemaker dinners in major markets. We’re excited to meet you, share our work, and build a community of enthusiasts around Moutonière.
Thank you for reading, for your support, and for sharing with friends—we can’t wait for them to join the flock too!
